About Mahogany

Mahogany is also known locally as Caoba (Swietenia macrophylla).
It is a large canopy tree with a basal buttress that grows naturally in the rainforest, sometimes reaching over 150 feet in height, with trunks sometimes more than 6 feet in diameter.  above a large basal buttress. Mahogany is arguably the most valuable timber in Latin America. Due to heavy logging, it is becoming increasingly rare, and is already extinct in parts of its original range. It is regarded by many as the world's premier wood for fine cabinetry, high-class furniture, trimming fine boats, pianos and other musical instruments, sculpture and carving.
The wood varies from yellowish, reddish, pinkish, or salmon in color when cut and it matures to a deep rich red or reddish brown. Mahogany is fine to medium texture, with uniform to interlocking grain. Irregularities in the grain produce highly attractive figures like the one you have purchased. We assure you that each item is individually hand-made and beautifully crafted with care. Mahogany polishes to a high luster, with excellent working and finishing characteristics. It responds well to hand and machine tools.
